Streetlight Banner Competition

Have you sent your Banner Digital shot in to Karen?

Monday is the last day to get them in......

All GCRAG artists are considered 'local' and your entry is welcomed ......

The plan is to have 6 to 8 banners printed of the art of each artist selected for this run....meaning there would be somewhere between 48 to 64 banners with GCRAG art on the streets......between Fall/Winter, and Spring/Summer......Then next year, a repeat program will be held.

If you know of a company or individual who would like to be a sponsor of this project, please let Dix or Karen know.....The more sponsors, the more that can be done....

If you are having a problem, contact Dix at dixpastels@aol.com - and we will arrange to shoot digital shots at Town Hall on Monday.

4th of July Event at Rhyolite Park

The Town of Castle Rock will sponsor a 4th of July Celebration again this year.

The event will be at Rhyolite Park. (south of town) (South on Gilbert Street until you see the sign on the right to the Park - ( a new park)

They have a nice area assigned for GCRAG artists.   They recommend a tent.

The event starts at 5 o'clock- lasts until the 'fireworks'.

If you need a tent, CONTACT:

Karen McGrath  -  kmcgrath@crgov.com  .... ( ASAP )

"Deeper Than It Seems"
excerpted from  www.yourhub.com article by Tamara Culp

The Greater Castle Rock Art Guild, GCRAG, was formed, in part, to nurture the artistic culture of our town. Our town and county governments are working very hard and effectively on the master plans that help to define the community now and far into the future. The Art Guild has a plan to bring a public and inviting face to the town, a face that would entice others to visit and our residents to remain.

That founding group of artists who answered the guild's first call has grown to more than 148. With the help of these committed artists and the support of the business community GCRAG would like to forge Castle Rock into an Artistic Destination for residents and visitors alike.

A project called 'Second Saturdays' is the first public step in that direction. 'Second Saturdays' refers to the second Saturday in May, June, July and August. The project will team artists and performers of all kinds with local businesses.

In the courtyard on Perry there may be a violinist standing next to a painter working on a still life next to a quilter explaining to an interested family how she starts her design process. On the lawn of the library a sculptor may be demonstrating his craft to an enraptured teenager who was originally drawn to hear the band playing nearby in the Gazebo.

As the 'Second Saturday' project grows and becomes an accepted and expected source of entertainment for our residents, word will travel and our audience will become wider. As Castle Rock's reputation as a destination gains stature, brochures and web postings aimed at national visitors become possible.

Castle Rock has an identity now. We know it's wonderful to live in a town with a main street, corner cafés and a wealth of friendly and talented residents. It may well be time to show everyone else that Castle Rock is deeper than it seems.
